Journalism and Communcation
The main goal of the Master's programme is to prepare the students to work as future top specialists in the fields of the journalism and communication. The programme promotes the development of the core skills and competencies of the field:
- understanding the relationships between contemporary media, economy and politics;
- ability to actively participate in the society;
- knowledge about the contemporary normative and regulative contexts;
- skills to collect, interpret and use data for content creation over different platforms;
- ability to interact with different target groups and audiences;
- ability to tell stories that have impact;
- skills of strategic communication planning;
- ability to use multimedia and other communication means.
The curriculum creates a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills to master the communicative work with people and texts. The learning process is supported by continues process of self-reflection; learning entrepreneurship and international collaboration; and preparing the students for life-long learning.

Name of degree awarded: Master of Arts in Social Sciences (Journalism and Communication)
The graduate will:
- be able to theoretically interpret the comprehensive processes in society, media and journalism, and to analyse the processes of public and organisational communication;
- be able to analyse different audiences and their role in the communicative situation;
- be able to use suitable communicative devices and channels;
- master the interpretation different types of data and use the data for the particular communicative goals;
- be able to create different types of texts and communicate these to the target groups, and to use different means for integrated and creative content production;
- be knowledgeable of the ethics regulations in the field of journalism and communication and be able to evaluate the ethical and legal aspects of one's own work;
- have developed self-reflection skills and entrepreneurial competencies for managing in different work situations (incl. multicultural contexts).
Admission
In order to apply for master's studies on this programme the applicant needs to have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of education and at least B1 level proficiency in Estonian language. There are no prerequisite courses but applicants must show their existing knowledge and experience in the field in the entrance exam. The entrance exam is an interview with the applicant.
